Mozart: Divertimento (String Trio) In E Flat Major, K. 563

  • Written: In 1788; In Vienna, Austria

I am listening to this amazing music, and I find that I must repeatedly hear several movements, because I am so thrilled by both the composition and also by the excellence of the performance.

The performers are: Martin Rummel, Cello; Christoph Ehrenfellner, violin; Firmian Lermer, viola

  • Mr. Ehrenfellner was born in Salzburg and has had an extensive career as both violinist and conductor
  • Firmian Lermer is from Germany and is the violist for the Scaramouche Quartet
  • Martin Rummel is a wonderful cellist, and he also teaches in New Zealand; and his repertoire now includes some 35 cello concertos, ranging from the Baroque to the present.

Together, these three artists give one outstanding reading of this music

Here are the titles of each movement:

1. Divertimento in E flat major, K. 563: I. Allegro

2. Divertimento in E flat major, K. 563: II. Adagio

3. Divertimento in E flat major, K. 563: III. Menuetto: Allegretto – Trio

4. Divertimento in E flat major, K. 563: IV. Andante

5. Divertimento in E flat major, K. 563: V. Menuetto: Allegretto – Trio I – Trio II

6. Divertimento in E flat major, K. 563: VI. Allegro

For me, personally, , the second movement of Mozart’s work is truly astounding: Each instrument gets an opportunity to speak profoundly. And each performer does so in a really superb manner.

I could not locate a video of these specific three performers, so here is another
Group:

Genady Gurevich-violin,
Vladislav Krasnov-viola,
Iris Regev-cello.

And here is the moving second movement, as played by a different group:

Adagio:

Performed wonderfully by the Grumiaux Trio

Arthur Grumiaux, violin
Georges Janzer, viola
Eva Czako, cello

Watch the score, and hear at 03:20 how the soulful tune is handed in turn to each of the instruments:

And just stay there and you’ll get the subsequent movements, as well

Enjoy!
