Netrebko’s Figaro

For many years now, the Opera ‘Marriage of Figaro’ by Mozart belonged to the 3-5 operas that I love most. On this DVD it is presented by a star cast that includes Anna Netrebko as Susanna, Bo Skovhus , as the Count, Dorothea Röschmann , as the Countess, and Christine Schäfer , as Cherubino.

This is really great music! And the emotion ranges from the serious, to the funny, cute, and profound.

  • Mozart: Le nozze di Figaro, K492

The principal cast list is as follows:

Ildebrando D’Arcangelo (Figaro), Anna Netrebko (Susanna), Bo Skovhus (Count), Dorothea Röschmann (Countess), Christine Schäfer (Cherubino), Marie McLaughlin (Marcellina), Franz-Josef Selig (Bartolo), Patrick Henckens (Basilio), Oliver Ringelhahn (Curzio), Florian Boesch (Antonio), Eva Liebau (Barbarina)

Performed by the Konzertvereinigung Wiener Staatsopernchor, and the Wiener Philharmoniker, conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt

  • DVD Subtitles: English/German/French/Spanish/Chinese

I never tire of this music. It is serious, funny, charming, soulful, sad, and more. Just explore the wonderful singing here, and it will become your favorite opera, too.

Gramophone Magazine wrote:

“…By and large the opera could hardly be more strongly cast. Anna Netrebko is a dreamy, vulnerable and beautifully sung Susanna, and Ildebrando D’Arcangelo’s smoldering Figaro is a really macho rival to the Count.”

Here are Netrebko, Röschmann, Ildebrando D’Arcangelo, and Skovhus in Le nozze di Figaro

And here is Le Nozze di Figaro – Finale
