Erwin Schrott’s recently released Arias album is pleasant as background music, but isn’t interesting enough to merit undivided attention. The sound of the voice isn’t distinctive, and he doesn’t imbue the arias with any particular dramatic interest. A few of his French vowels sound more like Spanish vowels. He should be making video recordings instead of audio recordings since his physical appearance is what sets him apart from others who sing this repertoire.
