Bell’s Barber

Samuel Barber’s violin concerto is a real gem! It should be performed more often. I have no idea why some pieces get performed too often, and others not often enough!

Tracks on this CD are:

  • 1. Adagio for Strings, Op.11

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra

  • 2. Concerto for Violin & Orchestra, Op.14 – 1. Allegro

Joshua Bell

  • 3. Concerto for Violin & Orchestra, Op.14 – 2. Andante

Joshua Bell

  • 4. Concerto for Violin & Orchestra, Op.14 – 3. Presto in moto perpetuo

Joshua Bell

  • 5. First Essay for Orchestra, Op.12

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra

  • 6. Overture “The School for Scandal”, Op.5

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra

  • 7. Second Essay for Orchestra, Op.17

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra

  • 8. Agnus Dei, Op.11

The Sixteen

The Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber appeared first as part of Barber’s String Quartet. The slow movement became an all-time audience favorite.

No one plays the Barber Concerto the way Shaham does. He captures the poetry in every phase; it's as though the concerto and Shaham were one!
