Power outage Tuesday affects a half dozen buildings in University Circle area, shuts down art museum and Severance HallPublished: Tuesday, November 29, 2011, 5:39 PM Updated: Tuesday, November 29, 2011, 7:20 PM By Pat Galbincea, The Plain Dealer The Plain Dealer Thomas Ondrey, The Plain Dealer Several buildings in the University Circle area including the Cleveland Museum of Art, show center in the front, lost power late Monday morning. CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Problems with underground cables that feed power to University Circle caused outages Tuesday to a half dozen buildings, FirstEnergy Corp. spokesman Mark Durbin said.
Buildings which lost power starting at 11 a.m. included the Cleveland Museum of Art, Severance Hall, the Cleveland Institute of Music, the W.O. Walker Building and two Cleveland Clinic garages.
Allison Bibb Carson, spokeswoman for the Cleveland Museum of Art, said the museum closed at noon after losing power the previous hour.
Durbin said because the cables are underground, it is unclear what caused the power outage -- excessive water seepage from rain is one possibility -- but he said the company hopes to have power restored by Tuesday evening.
