Classical Music Buzz > Classical Music Discoveries > Musical Fireworks - OSU Recital
This week we are proud to present the final OSU recital of the 2010 season. This podcast is sponsored by the Cedar City Rap Fund and the Cedar City/Brian Head Bureau of Tourism. Steve Downs, Lance Bassett and Ben Fuller come together as Ohana Kualoa to perform Beyond the Reef by Jack Pitman and Little Grass Shack by Bill Cogwell, Tommy Harrison and Johnny Noble. Ohana Kualoa is new to the music scene in Cedar City. The group began in May 2010 after Downs returned from spending a year at the Polynesian Cultural Center doing volunteer work. Downs leads the group on Rhythm guitar and vocal, Bassett plays bass and Fuller plays the Hawaiian steel guitar. Accidental 5 Brass Quintet play Next Stop, Funksville by John Wasson and Amparito Roca by Jamie Texidor Dalmau. Accidental 5 currently consists of Robert Carnesecca, trumpet; Jamie Bayer, trumpet; Candy Bennett, horn; Christina Carrigan, trombone; Tyician Knight, tuba. The group started as five friends getting together one summer and quickly evolved into a musical group. The quintet is quite versatile and plays a broad range of music, including an annual Christmas concert and various other performances throughout the year. Southern Utah String Quartet and pianist Teri Kenney perform Quintet (Finale: Allegro moderato) by Borodin. “Russian music is full of lush melodies and sweeping lines. It's exciting to play,” group musician Sara Penny commented. The quartet is comprised of violinists Patty Walser and Suzanne Stewart, cellist Leah Brown, and violist Penny. They are all active OSU concert musicians. Color Country Winds performs under the direction of Ken Hedgecock. They play The Liberty Bell March and The Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa, Tuscola Mountain by Paul Murtha, and Abba on Broadway arranged by Michael Brown. Color Country Winds is managed by Debbie Nollan. Violinist Heather Burton performs Chaconne from Partita No. 2 in D minor by Johann Sebastian Bach. Burton plays in OSU and teaches violin through Cedar Music Store and Studio. Vocalist Megan Harris sings Mattinata by Ruggiero Leoncavallo and Weep You No More Sad Foundations by Patrick Doyle.
