The Louisville Youth Orchestra is ramping up for its 2010-2011 concert season with auditions starting August 28 and running through September 5. The five different LYO ensembles perform concerts throughout the area, and will be featured in several high-profile events, including a concert with My Morning Jacket and a side-by-side concert with the Louisville Orchestra. The Stephen Foster Story Musical has been a Bardstown tradition for over 50 years. The outdoor performance explores the life of Stephen Foster through his songs, with a full cast of local singers and soloists from around the country. Music Theatre Louisville’s summer 2010 season included three productions: “1776,” “Nunsense,” and the perennial favorite “Annie” featuring Madelyn Steurer as the title character and Dan Bullington as Daddy Warbucks. Classical 90.5′s Scott Dowd spoke with the Hoosier duo about the production.

Music Theatre Louisville’s second offering of the 2010 season, Nunsense, is a departure of sorts in that it calls for an all-female cast. Scott Dowd speaks with assistant Director Adam Larkin and actress Gayle King about this perennial favorite.

Michael Davis is the Concertmaster for the Louisville Orchestra, and their featured soloist on the Summer Classics concert, July 15 & 17. Earlier this year, Daniel Gilliam sat down with Michael to find out what a Concertmaster really does, and how he occupies his time outside the concert hall.

The Louisville Orchestra begins the 2010 summer season with the traditional Independence Day concert on July 3 at 8:30 p.m. This year the concert, under the direction of resident conductor Jason Weinberger, will take place at Jeffersonville’s River Stage.

Music Theatre Louisville’s 2010 summer season opens June 25 with “1776.” The musical romp through history is directed by Jon Huffman, who talks about the show with Classical 90.5′s Scott Dowd.
