In 2002, Joshua performed all the violin solo work for the film Iris, composed by James Horner of Titanic fame. Recently Joshua had the opportunity to perform another of Horner’s compositions – the song “My Heart Will Go On.” The song is one of the tracks on Songs From the Silver Screen, the third full-length CD from 12-year-old soprano prodigy Jackie Evancho.
Joshua Bell took time off from rehearsal with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra to meet with 250 SCPA students who had come to school even though they had the day off. The students had seen Joshua’s recent appearance on “Dancing with the Stars” and knew of the viral video of the “Subway Experiment” in which he performed in the Washington Metro station.
Joshua kicked off the Seattle Symphony’s fall season with a performance of Bernstein’s Serenade after Platos Symposium. Veteran classical journalist Melinda Bargreen noted in the Seattle Times:
Recently Joshua returned from a tour of South Africa, having performed The Bach Double Concerto and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons in Cape Town with the Stellenbosch University Camerata; he also performed the Brahms Violin Concerto in D Major in Johannesburg with the Johannesburg Philharmonic, in Durban City with the Kwa-Zulu Natal Philharmonic and in Cape Town again with the Cape Philharmonic.
What does Joshua Bell have in common with NPR’s Robert Siegel? Recently Joshua participated in “Moment Magazine’s Great DNA Experiment of 2012.” The magazine partnered with the MountainView, California-based company 23andMe to test the DNA of 15 Jewish notables with Jewish ancestry to determine if they were related.
