Live Recording: Daedalus Quartet at Spivey Hall

For the second item in the music selections available here, I am pleased to offer a Haydn string quartet, the Op. 20, No. 3 in G minor, performed live at Spivey Hall by the Daedalus Quartet.

The Daedalus was very honored to be invited to open Spivey Hall's 2008-2009 season; this performance took place on September 20 in this true acoustic gem of a recital hall.

The Daedalus will record all six Op. 20 quartets of Haydn for Bridge Records early in 2009, with the release anticipated by the fall.
Alexander String Quartet: New Beethoven Cycle Recording

Greetings and Welcome.

Today I have created a BesenArts page and "radio station" courtesy of Instant Encore, and my first entry there is drawn from the Alexander String Quartet's forthcoming recording of the Beethoven cycle, set to be released by FoghornClassics in March 2009.

Next up will be some live concert performances by the Daedalus Quartet.

The Alexander released a high-acclaimed Beethoven cycle in 1999 (Arte Nova Classics, re-released 2006), but since first violinist Zakarias Grafilo joined the ensemble in 2002 I can tell you it was only a matter of time before they were going to do it again. The new project was in particular facilitated by the Alexander's relationship with composer/lecturer Robert Greenberg. Mr. Greenberg produces many extraordinary music appreciation video courses for The Teaching Company, and this spring his newest release will be a set of lectures on the Beethoven string quartets. The lectures will use excerpts from the Alexander's new recordings, which will also be available to customers at a special discounted price when purchased along with the lectures.

Judith Sherman is the producer, and the sessions are being held at the American Academy of Arts and Letters in Manhattan -- the final sessions will happen next month. The track I have posted is a first edit of the first movement of Op. 135. I will post more as material becomes available.

The track is available on the "radio station" and is also available from streaming at instantencore.com. Concert presenters, media, and others in the industry may request a code to facilitate a free download by contacting me at Robert@BesenArts.com or 201-386-8565.

Enjoy!

--Robert
