Welcome to A Far Cry! We are a group of musicians bound together by our desire to share great music and great art with people who are young, people who are mature, those near, and far. The music we play is music we love, and music we don’t want to live without. We have a mission to bring together all the loves of our lives, those that range from film, dance, and visual art, to our love for each person who lives the joy and suffering (and in-betweenness) that inspire the art of life. We are excited to have you join us as we discover how we can communicate our passion with different audiences, with different artists and with eachother, to be a part of the cries of need and celebration that make up the world in which we live.
Amelia Piano Trio

Formed in 1999, the trio came to the fore after participating in Isaac Stern's Chamber Music Workshop at Carnegie Hall in 2000.  Joining the roster of Concert Artists Guild in 2001, the trio went on to win the ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming and recorded CDs with Cedille Records and Naxos. Asked to be NPR's Young Artists-In-Residence in 2003, the trio reached an estimated 1.5 million listeners. Now Trio-In-Residence at Connecticut College, the Amelia enjoy a varied life of touring, recording, and mentoring.

America’s Dream Chamber Artists (ADCA) is America’s newest and most exciting chamber music society. By bringing about a resurgence of the great chamber music masterworks with renewed and energized freedom and expression, ADCA is challenging tradition by changing the face of chamber music, making it approachable and enjoyable to all audiences. ADCA has performed throughout the U.S., has been featured in Chamber Music and Muso magazines, and has appeared on WQXR and Voice of America. ADCA has established a groundbreaking collaboration between classical music, photography, and elite fashion, creating a modern and trendy visual image. Its Artist Members are an elite group of the country’s most superb, young musicians- including numerous past winners of the Avery Fisher Career Grant and international solo and chamber music competitions. They have performed at the world’s major festivals and are graduates of the country’s top conservatories.

Art of Élan is an exciting new chamber music organization that is committed to changing the cultural climate of San Diego by presenting chamber music concerts in an artistically stimulating and invigorating environment. Created by flutist Demarre McGill and violinist Kate Hatmaker, Art of Élan specifically aims to expose new audiences to classical music, explore (and expand) the horizons of the classical music scene, energize audiences and musicians alike, and ultimately educate and cultivate a future generation of classical music lovers. Art of Élan promises to provide a more engaging concert experience for audiences, focusing on both innovative and colorful programming, as well the energy of live performance. The BACH COLLEGIUM SAN DIEGO (A Vocal and Period Instrument Ensemble) was founded in 2003 with the purpose of enriching San Diego's music community with historically informed performances of the Renaissance, Baroque, and, in particular, the vocal works of J.S. Bach. Its members have longstanding experience with such notable ensembles as the Academy of Ancient Music, American Bach Soloists, Festival Ensemble Stuttgart, and the Philharmonia Chorale.

Cavani String Quartet

The Cavani String Quartet, winner of the prestigious Naumburg Chamber Music Award, has been described by the Washington Post as "completely engrossing, powerful and elegant." In addition to receiving the Naumburg Award, the Cavani Quartet has been a top prizewinner in numerous competitions including the Coleman, Fischoff, the Banff International, and the Cleveland Quartet Competition. Featured as Young Artists of the Year 1989 by Musical America Magazine, the Quartet's superlative performances and innovative teaching have garnered them no less than eight Chamber Music America Residency Partnership Grants. The Cavani String Quartet is the Quartet-in-Residence at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
Chesapeake Chamber Music

Beginning in June 1986, the Chesapeake Chamber Music Festival has beckoned summer to one of the loveliest areas in Maryland. The tradition began when several internationally recognized artists offered two concerts as a gift to a small audience in Talbot County. J. Lawrie Bloom, clarinet and principal bass clarinet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, gathered the musicians for those concerts, hosted by his parents, Eve and Ralph Bloom. Mr. Bloom has shared Artistic Director billing with Marcy Rosen, cello, and founder and member of the acclaimed Mendelssohn String Quartet for nineteen years.

Composer DANIEL KELLOGG has upcoming premieres with the Colorado Orchestra, San Diego Symphony, and Apsen Music Festival Chamber Orchestra. Recent premieres include the Philadelphia Orchestra and Ensemble Orchestral de Paris. Honors include a Charles Ives Fellowship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, six ASCAP Young Composer Awards and the Rudolf Nissim Award, and the BMI William Schuman Prize. His works have been performed at Carnegie Recital Hall, the Kimmel Center, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, and broadcasts on NPR’s “Performance Today” and “St. Paul Sundays”.
David Ludwig

David Ludwig's music (website) has been performed internationally by leading musicians of today in some of the world's most prestigious venues. His music has been called “entrancing,” and that it “promises to speak for the sorrows of this generation,” (Philadelphia Inquirer). It has further gained recognition for its “expressive directness” (The New York Times) and has been noted for “a yearning, poetic quality” (Baltimore Sun). His works have been performed in such major venues in the United States as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Library of Congress, and have been heard on PBS and NPR's Weekend Edition. He joined the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music in 2001 and is the artistic director of the Curtis 20/21 Contemporary Music Ensemble.

Ensemble 212

Ensemble 212 is a New York-based orchestra comprised of young talented professionals. The orchestra performs a series of chamber music, ensemble, and orchestra concerts which allows artistic involvement from both conductor and the orchestra musicians. Chamber music concerts feature orchestra musicians without conductor, ensemble concerts allow the conductor and musicians to collaborate together and in orchestra concerts, the artistic decisions emanate from the conductor. Ensemble 212 also holds annual Young Artist Competition series dedicated to featuring musicians who demonstrate exceptional abilities for a promising career in classical music.

Since his stunning orchestral debut at the age of eleven with the San Francisco Symphony, he has won the admiration and respect of audiences, critics and fellow musicians with his passionate and polished performances. This season, as he has for over twenty-five years, Mr. Laredo will interweave solo and conducting dates with the dense chamber music schedule of the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, both here and abroad. Jason Vieaux is expanding the definition of “Classical Guitarist” and changing the face of guitar programming, building a solid audience and fan base along the way. His ever-growing reputation for putting his expressive gifts and virtuosity at the service of the music earns him an active schedule of solo, chamber and concerto appearances around the US and abroad. Jason Vieaux has eight recordings to his credit through his multi-record deal with Azica Records. Sevilla: The Music of Isaac Albeniz, was rated one of the Top Ten Classical CDs of 2003 by The Philadelphia Inquirer and Cleveland’s Plain Dealer. Mr. Vieaux recorded his first CD when he was just 19; a solo CD of Bach lute works is scheduled for a fall 2007 release. He resides in Cleveland, Ohio, where he is Head of the Cleveland Institute of Music Guitar Department, making him the youngest Department Head to serve at the prestigious conservatory.

Jerod Impichchaachaaha' Tate was born in 1968 in Norman, Oklahoma and is a citizen of the Chickasaw Nation. Mr. Tate is dedicated to the development of American Indian classical composition, and his recent review by The Washington Post states that “Tate’s connection to nature and the human experience was quite apparent in this piece…rarer still is his ability to effectively infuse classical music with American Indian nationalism.”
